ACTEMRA infusion therapy is an FDA-approved medication prescribed to treat a range of arthritic diseases and systemic sclerosis. An ACTEMRA infusion is in a class of biologic therapies known as interleukin-6 receptor antagonists.
The autoimmune diseases that ACTEMRA infusion therapy is designed to treat are caused by a triggered immune system. Normally, the immune system works by responding to foreign cells that could be dangerous and cause disease. In individuals with autoimmune conditions, the immune system is triggered by normal cells.
ACTEMRA infusion therapy can prevent the immune system from being activated to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms.
The out-of-pocket ACTEMRA price will vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you have questions about your coverage, contact your insurance provider.
Many patients with commercial insurance qualify for the ACTEMRA Co-pay Program which can help cover the out-of-pocket ACTEMRA price. For those without insurance, they may be eligible for the Genentech Patient Foundation. No patient should go without necessary treatment due to financial limitations. If you have questions about financial assistance opportunities, contact a member of our Violet Health team.
If your provider prescribes ACTEMRA, you will receive your ACTEMRA treatment by subcutaneous injection (via syringe or an ACTEMRA ACTPen) or by IV therapy. Your referring provider will help you determine which treatment method is best for you.
Some patients may experience mild ACTEMRA side effects. The most common reactions are headaches, injection site reactions, increased blood pressure, or upper respiratory tract infections. Since an ACTEMRA infusion affects the immune system, your provider will monitor you throughout treatment for signs of infection.
